Applications of Stainless Steel Flanges

Stainless Steel Flanges are harder than mild steel and alloy steel because of chromium content into it and because of nickel alloy content it is anti corrosive. This makes its applications in industries like Chemical, Fertilizers, Sugar, Distilleries, Breweries, Cement, Marine Industries etc.

Manufacturing process of Stainless Steel Forged Flanges

Stainless Steel flanges are manufactured through forging process and that is why it is also called as stainless steel forged flanges. There are two main stages to make stainless steel forged flanges. Stainless steel forged flanges are manufactured from stainless steel billets. It is advisable to make slight grinding on all the surface of billets to make ensure quality forging and finishing. Flanges can be forged in three methods first and out dated process is heating stainless billets cut pieces into coal heated furnace which is not only costly but also very poor in quality, very slow process and not at all recommended for stainless steel flanges forging. There are two more methods i.e. oil furnace and electric furnace.

After forging machining of stainless steel flanges is to be done. While machining there are many operations done on a flange to make it dimensionally perfect and looking wise very good like making diameter, making inner diameter, facing of flanges and the last but the critical operation is drilling. Drilling of stainless steel forged flanges is critical because if it is not made as per required dimension it will not match the other object holes and matter will be messed.

Solution Annealing or Heat treatment of Stainless Steel Flanges

Stainless Steel flanges are mainly not solution annealed but if the standard of the same is asking for the same as normalized flanges ( Normalized means itself to be solution annealed) then it is to be heat treated at 1060 degree C and thereafter to be water quenched or cooled at room temperature depending on the metal grade of stainless steel flanges.

Welding of Stainless Steel flanges

Stainless Steel flanges are normally being welded to the object in final process if we ignore threaded flanges which have thread to be inserted on to the object. While welding stainless flanges to the object one have to consider both metal of flanges as well as object and accordingly have to choose the stainless steel filler wire to weld it.
