Process of Manufacturing Stainless 316L Hex Bars:

Normally stainless 316L bars can be manufactured in two ways. First way depends on the size of Stainless 316L Hex bar size. If the size is small than it can be simply manufactured from stainless 316L wire. In India there are many stainless 316L wire manufacturing companies or mills like Mukund a well known stainless steel long metal product mill, Panchmahal, Easy Bars, Sun Flag, Viraj etc.

The formula for manufacturing stainless 316L is 1.25 times of A/F. AF is across flat, since hex bars have uniform six sides and because of this hex bars can me measured through across flats. So manufacturing 10 mm A/F stainless 316L hex bars we need 12 mm stainless 316 wire.

We easily gets stainless wire up to 32mm from indian stainless mills and that is why we can manufacture up to 20mm stainless 316L hex bars. But at the same time it is bit costly to manufacture such a big size from wire and that is why normally 16 mm stainless steel hex bars are manufactured from stainless wire.

Second method of manufacturing S S hex bars is drawing process. Size requirement remains same if it is drawn from round bars and in olden days it was like this only for manufacturing 32mm stainless 316L hex bars we were using 40mm stainless 316L rolled bars. Now a days stainless rolling mills have developed hex dies to roll up to 70mm A/F. This kind of dies have shorted out double and triple drawing of stainless 316L round bars.

Normally as per ASTM standard it is mandatory to make solution annealing of stainless steel rolled bars or stainless wire before drawing the same and giving any shape or size. Now since stainless rolled hex bars are available we have to take 2-3 mm plus to size we are willing to manufacture. Since stainless is an high tensile metal after drawing it gets curved shape in length and that is why it is compulsory to make straightening of drawn stainless 316L hex bars.

This was the process to manufacture s s hex bar but finishing and packaging is also equally important. Since stainless steel hexagonal bars are being used to manufacture components like Nuts, Special Components, Hex Bolts, Hex Head Plug, Thermowell etc the finishing of hex bar is very important.
